Red Zircon and Zultanite

Kat will present two brand new collections, of Zultanite and the red variety of Zircon. The world-famous Blue Zircon comes from Ratanakiri, and the wonderful white specimens with incredible brilliance come from Cambodia. Tanzania is more known for brown and orange toned Zircon. But there is another Zircon, regarded as sacred, and that is the Red Zircon.

It is considered to be the most popular Zircon among gemstone collectors since its pure red is very rare to find. Until about two years ago, less than a handful of them were known. Don Kogen and his team were looking for blue zircon in Ratanakiri at the end of 2014, when they happened upon these specific Red Zircon gems, a wonderful event described by Don Kogen as a “one shot wonder”. There they found in a small fissure, a zircon with an unseen, intensely red colour. This find has remained unique, and now these gems have found their place in the jewels of Kat Florence.

Zultanite also continues to exert its own attraction to the viewer. With every glance this gemstone seems to change colour. This is due to Zultanite’s ability to display different colours when viewed under alternate light sources. A fascinating gemstone that you can always rediscover.

One of a kind

Kat’s incomparable “One of a Kind” jewellery can’t be missed, her show presents gemstones whose existence even I was unaware of! Are you familiar with Wurtzite, which is similar to the Sphalerite? Or Poudretteite from Myanmar, which was only discovered a few years ago as an independent mineral?

Sphalerite in completely unknown shades also feature in Kat’s autumn inspired designs, as well as a Vanadium Prismatine, Star Sapphire from Mogok, Luc Yen Sapphire from Vietnam and many more unique pieces will be featured in the shows.

AAA Tanzanite gold necklace

A special highlight will be the AAA-Tanzanite gold necklace featuring a Tanzanite of over 45 ct! And not to mention surrounded by 399 diamonds of the best quality: D Flawless! And then there is the almost 40g of 18 carat white gold… A real collector’s item, a piece like this cannot be replicated often due to the rarity of Tanzanite. But what does “not often” mean here? Such pieces have always been rare and will undoubtedly become much rarer in the future. Perhaps, just for fun, you should go to a jeweller and ask if they can source you such a masterpiece, and at what cost?  I’m looking forward to the answers! But even if you cannot buy this gorgeous piece, Kat Florence has so many wonderful pieces of jewellery on offer. Making a decision is really hard!

Watch Rocks & Co. this weekend to see these gorgeous collections for yourself!
